INDIANAPOLIS -- Oakland men's basketball player Jalen Hayes has been named Horizon League Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 4-10 after averaging a double-double last week.
Hayes, a native of Lansing, Mich., averaged 25.5 points per game and 10 rebounds per game last week against Eastern Michigan and Chicago State. Against the Eagles on Dec. 2, Hayes recorded his fourth-straight double-double by scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds while adding five assists as he moved into third all-time in career double-doubles in Oakland history.
On Dec. 6 against Chicago State, Hayes recorded another double-double to make it a league-leading five in a row by scoring a career high 30 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. He also shot a career best 12-for-14 from the field as Oakland defeated Chicago State 82-50. The redshirt-senior forward ranks 16th in the NCAA in double-doubles.
The Oakland men's basketball team will return to action Saturday, Dec. 16 at 2:30 to take on No. 2 Michigan State in Little Caesars Arena as part of the 2017 Hitachi College Basketball Showcase.
