Head Coach Greg Kampe

Overall thoughts on playing in the Vegas 16ââ'¬Â¦

Las Vegas might be my favorite city in the world. The chance to come here is unbelievable. As soon as I heard about it, I wanted to do it. And I told our team, look I'm staying until Wednesday whether you guys are or not.

What would you tell other coachesââ'¬Â¦

We've been treated like kings. I don't think the crowds is what it's going to be five years from now. I do think that once people find out how great this thing really is, I think the fans will come. I mean you might have just saw one of the top-10 players in the country and you could sit anywhere you wanted for a pretty cheap ticket. You know if they're listening to this, you've got at least one more day to see him (Felder). I mean there's a reason he's up for the final five of whatever (Cousy/Wooden).

Kay Felder's focus when everyone is talking about his draft statusââ'¬Â¦

There's talk and we'll talk about the possibility of coming out. A lot of people are talking about that. He's very focused in on this. We talked as a team after the disappointment in our conference tournament, not making it to the NCAA's, how important this was to come and show the type of team we are. We had a great year. It was a reward for the year but it's also, we've got a lot of people back next year so this building for the future.

Have you ever coached a player like Kay Felder before the way he's such a great scorer yet unselfish in finding his teammates?

I've coached pros. I've coached a lot of great players. When he leaves, I'll probably say, he's the best I've ever had. I've had some great point guards but to do both- I've had a point guard lead the nation in scoring, I've had a point guard lead the nation in assists- one guy doing both, no I've never had that. Nobody has though.

On getting up for the Vegas 16 after tough conference finishââ'¬Â¦

Very disappointing end to our season. I gave them 10 days off and I think as I look at it now, that was the right thing to do because they didn't want to play after because they should be in the NCAA tournament and so I wasn't going to get anything out of them. Ten days went by, NCAA tournaments games were being played and they wanted to get back in the gym anyways and now we have something to play for and we get to go to Vegas. And they're running this tournament as first-class a tournament as I've seen. Bingo. You could see that, they wanted to win.

On getting play started in the Vegas 16ââ'¬Â¦

I was just happy out there, ready to play from the get-go. We were pretty pumped. We still have a bad taste in our mouth from the Horizon League tournament loss. So we feel like we have something to prove so that's why we're going to come out here and try and win the whole thing.

Did you feel like you needed the time off from practice that Coach Kampe gave you all after the loss to Wright Stateââ'¬Â¦

I don't like taking time off. I didn't take 10 days off. I took maybe one or two. I was ready to go.

How you stay focused when everyone is talking about your draft statusââ'¬Â¦

I mean it's your dream to play at the next level and to play in the NBA. But right now I'm worried about we have going on now and that's the Vegas 16. All the outside distractions, my family helps me out a lot with that. If I do get stressed out or something they bring me right back down to earth. That's one thing that my family preached. We know it will be hectic, but we got your back.

Talk about your relationship with Coach Kampeââ'¬Â¦

That's a father figure to me. And that's way beyond basketball. He's helped me so much from coming in as a boy and turning into a man. He's just a father figure. That's the only way I can put it.
