CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 Team
ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland men's basketball player Max Hooper was named to the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-District 5 Team, announced the organization on Thursday. This marks the first time in Oakland's Division I era that a men's basketball player has earned academic all-district team honors.
Hooper, a redshirt senior guard from Carmel Valley, Calif., ranks sixth in the NCAA in 3-pointers made per game at 3.6 and is 12th in 3-point field goal percentage. He has hit seven or more triples in a game four times this season including setting a career high with nine 3-pointers and 27 points at Green Bay on Jan. 23. Hooper has not registered a 2-point field goal attempt this season despite shooting 195 3-point attempts. He is on pace to become the third player in the past 10 years to finish in the top-100 nationally in 3-point attempts and also attempt fewer than 20 two-point shots. Earlier this season, Hooper was ranked as second-best 3-point shooter in the country by Bleacher Report.
In the classroom, Hooper maintains a 3.64 grade-point average in graduate school in Public Administration and is on pace to earn his Master's degree in April of 2016. He is a graduate transfer from St. John's where he graduated with a 3.56 in 2014. He earned Horizon League Honor Roll distinctions this Fall.
The 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-DistrictTM Men's Basketball Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. District 5, one of eight districts across the United States and Canada, encompasses Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
