Coverage

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland men's golf team continues its Fall season at the Derek Dolenc Invitational, hosted by SIUE, Monday and Tuesday at Gateway National Golf Links (par 71, 7,091 yards) in Madison, Ill. The 54-hole tournament will begin at 9 a.m. ET on Monday with 36 holes followed by the final round being played on Tuesday.

The Golden Grizzlies began the season two weeks ago with a share of sixth place at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate in Normal, Ill. Jacob Johnson earned a tie for 17th place with a second round score of 69 (-1), while Evan Bowser and Jake Kneen each shared 25th place.

Bowser returns for his senior season after winning the Horizon League Championship last season and tying for 33rd at the NCAA Regionals. After being named an All-Horizon League selection last year, Bowser became the first player in program history to be an all-league selection his first three seasons. He broke the school record for career rounds under-par and is the school's career stroke-average leader at 73.63.

The reigning Horizon League Freshman of the Year, Kneen, is coming off an exciting summer where he competed in the United States Amateur Championship at Olympia Fields finishing with a 148 (+8). Johnson earned an alternate spot for the U.S. Amateur and comes back after earning All-Tournament Team honors at the Horizon League Championship last season. Sean Burgess returns for his second season with the Golden Grizzlies after ending last year with a 75.59 stroke average. Daniel Ault will play in his first tournament of the year, while freshman Marc Norton will be making his collegiate debut as an individual.
