ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland volleyball team continues its non-conference schedule this weekend as it heads to the west coast to compete in the LBSU/LMU Mizuno Invitational, hosted by both Long Beach State and Loyola Marymount, Sept. 11-12. The Golden Grizzlies begin the tournament against Stony Brook on Friday at 1 p.m. ET, followed by taking on LBSU at 8 p.m. ET and on Saturday they face LMU at 1 p.m. ET and then conclude the tournament against Central Arkansas at 6 p.m. ET.

LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Grizzlies are coming off the Golden Flashes Classic, hosted by Kent State, last weekend where they faced Albany, Indiana State and KSU. Cassie Pelloni tallied 28 kills during the tournament, while Sammy Condon recorded 27 kills for Oakland.

INSIDE THE MATCHES
All-time Oakland is 0-1 against Stony Brook, while this will be the first matchups versus Central Arkansas, Loyola Marymount and Long Beach State.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Long Beach State is 4-2 this season and is led by Nele Barber with 3.65 kills per set and Mykah Wilson with 3.74 digs per set. LMU made the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years last season and are 3-2 to begin 2015 as Hannah Tedrow averages 12.44 assists per set. UCA enter the match with a 1-5 mark and are led by Heather Schnars with just under 100 kills in six matches. Stony Brook are 2-6 entering the weekend as Lo Hathaway and Nicole Vogel each average over three digs per set.

CLIMBING UP THE RECORD BOOKS
Several Golden Grizzlies are cementing their legacies within the Oakland volleyball program as they set several career records. Here is a list of Golden Grizzlies ranked in the top-10 all-time in the program's history:
Melissa Deatsch: Tied for third in service aces needing just six more aces to be the program's all-time leader
Ciara Schultz: Third all-time in assists and needs 492 more to reach second place. Also ranks fifth in career service aces
Cassie Pelloni: Currently eighth in career kills and needs 12 more to move into sole possession of seventh place
Amanda Baker: Ranks seventh in total blocks and needs 18 more to move into sixth place

2014 SEASON RECAP
The Golden Grizzlies had its most successful season in the Division I era in 2014 as they won their first regular season and tournament league titles and went on to make their first NCAA Tournament appearance. Oakland set six single-season team records for kills, attack percentage, assists, service aces, block assists and team blocks.

ALL-LEAGUE PERFORMERS
Oakland returns a pair of All-Horizon League selections in Sammy Condon and Cassie Pelloni from last season. Condon was named to the all-league team and also became just the second freshman in Horizon League history to win Tournament MVP honors. Pelloni returns for her senior campaign after leading the team in kills per set a year ago. The Golden Grizzlies also return all-tournament team honorees Ciara Schultz and Jessica Dood. Schultz set the school record for assists in a season at 1,244 and Dood averaged 2.58 kills per set in 2014.

THE BEAM FILE
Head Coach Rob Beam returns for his ninth season at the helm of the Golden Grizzlies and is the defending Horizon League Coach of the Year. He guided Oakland to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014 while winning more than 20 games in a season for the first time since 1997. Beam has coached two Defensive Players of the Year and 12 all-league selections under his tenure.

UP NEXT
Oakland returns to Rochester next weekend for its home opener as they host the Golden Grizzlies Invitational during Homecoming Weekend. They will play host to Western Michigan, Eastern Illinois, Ohio State and Dartmouth.
