April 2, 2015 ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland women's tennis team (2-13, 1-3 Horizon League) hosts Wright State Friday, April 3 in a key Horizon League contest for both teams.
With both Oakland and Wright State tied for sixth place in the current Horizon League standings, Friday's 3:30 p.m. match at Bloomfield Tennis and Fitness Club will give the winning team a leg up heading into the final stretch of conference play. The top six teams of the nine-team conference advance to the 2015 Horizon League Championship April 24-26 in West Lafayette, Ind.
Scouting Oakland: The Golden Grizzlies are aiming to snap a two-match slide this weekend after a pair of road setbacks to Cleveland State and Youngstown State last weekend. Oakland was on the cusp of defeating defending Horizon League champion Youngstown State March 28, but two three-set matches went in favor of the Penguins giving the host side a 5-2 victory.
Against Cleveland State March 29, The Golden Grizzlies were held in check in a 6-1 setback. On the weekend, Juliana Guevara and Karine Celis went 2-0 in doubles action while Cam Sabourin and Guevara each registered singles wins.
Scouting the Opponent: Wright State is coming off a 7-0 win against Indiana Southeast March 29 after dropping a 4-3 match to Horizon League foe UIC earlier in the day. Friday's match is the first road Horizon League contest for Wright State this season.
Next Up: The Golden Grizzlies will travel west to take on UIC Saturday, April 11 and Valparaiso Sunday, April 12.
