ROCHESTER, Mich. - Elizabeth Guy was a two-time winner for Oakland Saturday afternoon, but it was not enough as the Golden Grizzlies dropped a 5-2 decision to rival Detroit in the first-ever intercollegiate match at the Oakland Outdoor Tennis Courts. Guy was victorious at No. 2 doubles and No. 4 singles.

At the onset, Oakland took the early lead by taking the doubles point. Guy paired with Tamara Blum to post a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles to match Detroit's earlier win at No. 1 doubles. The Golden Grizzlies then got a 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles by Karine Celis and Juilana Guevara to take momentum into singles play.

But the Golden Grizzlies couldn't keep up their pace, as Detroit (15-8, 7-1 Horizon League) claimed wins at No. 5 and No. 2 singles to take the lead.

Senior Cam Sabourin was close to forcing a third set at No. 1 singles, but was unable to win the tiebreaker in the second set in a 6-4, 7-6 (5) setback as Detroit claimed another point in team scoring.

Detroit then sealed their team win with a victory at No. 6 singles, where Juliana Guevara lost 7-6 (5), 6-4.

Guy was quick to follow with her 6-4, 6-4 straight-set win to give the Golden Grizzlies another point. But it was all Oakland would get, as Tamara Blum lost in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Prior to the match, the Golden Grizzlies recognized its two seniors, Theresa Elder and Sabourin.

Oakland will prepare for the 2015 Horizon League Championship, hosted by the Horizon League at West Lafayette, Ind. Later this weekend, the Golden Grizzlies will find out their opponent for their Friday first round match.
