BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Elle Nichols carded a 2-over-par 74 and is three shots off the lead as the Oakland women's golf team is in sixth place (319/+31) after day one of the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational on Stone Ridge Golf Club (Par 72, 5,960 yards). The Golden Grizzlies are 17 shots off the lead, held by Western Michigan.

"It was definitely a bit of a struggle for us today," said first-year coach Alyssa Gaudio. "We had a couple of rough holes, but found a way to recover from our mistakes. Although we didn't shoot anywhere near what we are capable of, we did have a couple good rounds to help put us in a good spot for day two. We are ready to get some redemption tomorrow!"

Nichols is trying to record her second tournament win during her freshman season. She is searching for her fifth top-10 finish for the Golden Grizzlies.

Haylee Zyber finished the opening 18 holes with a 79, and is currently in a tie for 21st place. Toledo's Sathika Ruenreong holds the lead heading into the final round after shooting a 1-under-par 71.

The second and final round will commence Sunday morning.
