March 30, 2015 ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Due to inclement weather in Youngstown, Ohio, the Oakland softball team (11-14, 2-1 HL) continues Horizon League play on the road at YSU (10-14, 3-0 HL) with a doubleheader now scheduled for Wednesday, April 1 at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the YSU Softball Field.
Last season, Oakland took 2-of-3 games to win the program's first Horizon League series and holds a 5-2 overall mark against YSU.
YSU is coming of a pair of home loses to Kent State last week and are led by junior infielder Miranda Castiglione who leads the team with 24 hits while batting .353. Freshman Cai Mikovich leads the team with 18 RBI and five home runs while sophomore outfielder Sarah Dowd also ranks first with 22 runs and five home runs. On the mound, sophomore Caitlyn Minney (3-5) leads the staff with 52 strikeouts and a 4.64 ERA.
The last time out, Oakland opened the 2015 Horizon League season winning 2-of-3 games at UIC, 8-5 and 3-2, at DePaul's Cacciatore Stadium (March 20-21).
Erin Kownacki lead the Golden Grizzlies going a perfect 2-0 tossing two complete games in 18.0 innings of work with a 1.56 ERA and eight strikeouts while allowing only four earned runs to earn Horizon League Pitcher of the Week honors.
Offensively, Julia Morales led Oakland hitting .667 going 6-for-9 with three RBI and .700 on-base percentage. In the series opener, she went 4-for-6 hitting a clutch two-RBI single in the 11th inning to secure Oakland's 8-5 win.
As a team, Oakland ranks third in the Horizon League hitting .292. Individually, Sarah Hartley leads the team and ranks fourth in the league batting .438. She also leads to team in hits (34), home runs (6), triples (3) and RBI (23). Sara Cupp ranks second in hitting (.377), RBI (18) and third in hits (26) while Jackie Kisman ranks second (29). Courtnee Johnson ranks third (.353) followed by TJ Bindus (.385). Morales also ranks third in RBI (16) and fourth in hits (24).
