ROCHESTER, Mich. - Kahlil Felder scored a career-high 37 points and handed out 11 assists to lead Oakland (16-17) in a 97-91 loss to Eastern Illinois (18-14) in the opening round game of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason tournament on Tuesday night inside the Athletics Center O'rena. The Panthers made 15 of 31 shots from behind the arc and shot 55 percent in the game.
Dante Williams scored 19 points and Corey Petros finished with 12 for the Golden Grizzlies. EIU's bench outscored Oakland 42-16 in the contest.
The Panthers were led by Reggie Smith's 26 points, while Trae Anderson added 19 off the bench. Dylan Chatman scored 17 to round out double figures for EIU.
The Golden Grizzlies led for most of the first half before EIU went on a 19-5 run to take a 10-point lead, 33-23, with 6:33 left until halftime. Oakland closed the final six minutes on a 18-9 run to trail by one, 42-41, at the intermission.
The Panthers continued their hot shooting, making 10 straight field goals and pushed their lead all the way to 17 points, 82-65 (7:13). The Golden Grizzlies continued to fight, getting within four points on three occasions in the final 1:24, but EIU made 16 of 17 free throws and held on for the road victory.
The loss snaps an 11-game home court winning streak. The Golden Grizzlies went 12-4 inside the O'rena this season.
