March 16, 2015 PRIMM, Nev. - Elle Nichols and Marianna Stepp each carded a 150 (+6) to lead the Oakland women's golf team after day one of the Jackrabbit Invitational, hosted by South Dakota State, on Monday at Primm Valley Golf Club - Lake Course (par 72, 5,945 yards). Oakland finished in fifth place with a 600 (+24), its second-best 36-hole tournament score in program history.
"To break 300 is a great accomplishment and was even more impressive to follow up our 299 with a 301," said head coach Alyssa Gaudio. "Our ball striking is very solid and with a few more putts dropped tomorrow, we have the potential to go even lower."
Nichols and Stepp each share 19th place with their 150, as each shot a team-low round of 73 during day one. Grand Canyon's Charlotte Jaengkit holds the individual lead after carding back-to-back rounds of 69 for a 6-under par 138. Haylee Zyber finished T24 with a 151 (+7).
The host Jackrabbits are in the team lead with a day one score of 575 (-1), two shots in front of Oral Roberts and five shots ahead of Grand Canyon.
The final round of the Jackrabbit Invitational will begin tomorrow starting at 10:30 a.m. ET from the Primm Valley Golf Club.
