SEDONA, Ariz.- Marianna Stepp shot a 1-over-par 73 to lead the Oakland women's golf team in the final round of the Red Rocks Invitational, hosted by Northern Arizona, at Oak Creek Country Club (par 72, 5,579 yards) on Saturday.
"We battled through the tough conditions and rounded out our team score with a 73, 76, 77 and 78," said head coach Alyssa Gaudio. "Great shooting all week and a lot of confidence heading into the rest of the spring schedule."
Stepp shot the low Oakland round of the tournament on Saturday and improved 11 strokes from her round one score to finish tied for 59th place. Alyssa Albright and Morgan Smith were the top finishers for the Golden Grizzlies as they both shared 43rd place with a final score of 155 (+11). Haylee Zyber carded a final round 76 to move up to a tie for 51st place, while Elle Nichols shot 78 to also finish T51.
Northern Arizona captured the team title with an overall score of 597(+21), five strokes in front of second-place Cal Poly. Grand Canyon's Charlotte Jaengkit earned medalist honors after winning a scorecard playoff against Sophie Peters of Nebraska-Omaha as they both finished the tournament at even-par 144.
The Golden Grizzlies will be back on the course March 16-17 as they compete in the Jackrabbit Invitational in Primm, Nev.
