LITCHFIELD, Ariz. - Alyssa Albright shot a team-low 1-over-par 73, while Morgan Smith and Elle Nichols finished inside the top-50 to lead the Oakland women's golf team on the final day of the GCU Invitational, hosted by Grand Canyon, on Wednesday at The Heritage Red Course at Wigwam Golf Resort (par 72, 6,200 yards). The Golden Grizzlies had four players who shot a 75 or under in the final round.
"Very proud of how we finished our final round," said head coach Alyssa Gaudio. "Impressive scores from everyone to come together and shoot 300. Looking forward to Northern Arizona's tournament and our ability to keep improving everyday."
Albright's final round was the best of the tournament by an Oakland player as she finished tied for 26th with a total score of 231 (+15), 14 strokes behind medalist Charlotte Jaengkit from Grand Canyon. Morgan Smith tallied a 2-over par final round to earn a share of 37th place, while Elle Nichols finished tied for 48th place with a 75 on the final day. Haylee Zyber also shot a final round 75 playing as an individual.
UC Riverside captured the team title after leading with an overall score of 895 (+31), eight strokes in front of second-place Grand Canyon and 15 shots ahead of Northern Arizona.
The Golden Grizzlies will be back on the course this weekend when they compete in the Red Rocks Invitational, hosted by Northern Arizona, February 28-March 1 in Sedona, Ariz.
