Feb. 24, 2015 Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Sara Cupp went 3-for-4 and Courtnee Johnson hit 2-for-4 with a two-RBI triple to lead Oakland (4-8) in a 4-3 setback against FGCU (8-9) in the nightcap of doubleheader action on Tuesday at the FGCU Softball Complex. After an 8-0 loss in the first game, the Golden Grizzlies responded with a valiant effort taking a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning but could not hold on as the Eagles scored two runs in walk-off fashion. Haley Zemmer (1-3) suffered the tough loss tossing 6.1 innings with three strikeouts while Morgan Muron hit 1-for-3 with a RBI.
Julia Morales also went 2-for-4 with TJ Bindus hitting 1-for-2 with a run scored. In game one, the Golden Grizzlies were led by Jackie Kisman and Sarah Hartley who went a perfect 3-for-3 and 2-for-2 respectively. Erin Kownacki (2-3) picked up the loss allowing only three hits with two strikeouts.
"Erin threw a great game against a very strong team. She only gave up three hits and we tripled FGCU in total hits but made too many defensive mistakes at the wrong time," said head coach Connie Miner. "We also left too many on base and are not getting that timely hit right now. We played much better in game two and should have walked away with a win. Again, we had 10 hits but we need to have better at bats with people in scoring position. When you go into the last inning leading by one run, you need to finish it and close the door. We allowed them to take that win from us. That was a tough loss for this team but we will learn from this and come out strong tomorrow".
In the nightcap, Oakland took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Muron put the ball in play with the bases loaded to score Lauren Mead. FGCU tied the contest in the bottom half on a RBI ground out.
With two on and two out in the fifth, Johnson's clutch RBI triple down the left field line scored Bindus and Rae Beadlescomb giving Oakland a 3-1 lead. Once again, the Eagles responded with a RBI single to cut the lead to 3-2.
Down a run entering the bottom of the seventh inning, FGCU's first two hitters recorded singles followed by a walk to load the bases. After a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 3-3, Kasa Castle hit a walk-off RBI single up the middle to secure the 4-3 win.
In the first game, Oakland tallied nine hits against FGCU pitcher Shelby Morgan but could not deliver a hit with runners in scoring position leaving 10 on base while the defense surrendered four unearned runs.
Oakland plays a double header against Ave Maria on Wednesday, Feb. 25 with game one beginning at 12 p.m. followed by the second at 2 p.m.
