Feb. 24, 2015 LITCHFIELD, Ariz. - Alyssa Albright jumped up the leaderboard 18 spots in the standings and is tied for 50th place, while Fiona Schmidt improved seven strokes from her opening round to lead the Oakland women's golf team after day two of the GCU Invitational, hosted by Grand Canyon, at The Heritage Red Course at Wigwam Golf Resort (par 72, 6,200 yards) on Tuesday.
"We took the momentum we finished with yesterday and used it to help us with our rounds today," said head coach Alyssa Gaudio. "We shot a solid 313 and jumped up the leaderboard. Looking forward to tomorrow and finishing strong on the third and final day."
The Golden Grizzlies moved up to 14th place after improving by nine strokes from day one with a 313. Albright shot a second round 78 to move into a share for 50th, while Schmidt recorded the low round of the tournament for the Golden Grizzlies with a 76 to move into a tie for 55th place. Morgan Smith tallied a 79 on day two and holds a share of 61st place.
UC Riverside continues to lead heading into the final round after shooting a 306 on Tuesday. Grand Canyon moved into second place trailing by five strokes followed by Northern Arizona behind by 11 shots.
The final round will begin at 10 a.m. ET Wednesday morning with a shotgun start. Live stats are being provided at golfstat.com.
