CollegeInsider Top-25 Preseason Mid-Major Poll
ROCHESTER, Mich. ââ'¬" The Oakland men's basketball team ranked No. 14 in the CollegeInsider.com Preseason Mid-Major Top 25 Poll, announced this week. Oakland was one of two Horizon League teams in the top 25 rankings, behind No. 3 Valparaiso.
The Golden Grizzlies finished second in the Horizon League Preseason Poll and return the preseason player of the year honoree Kahlil Felder. Felder was a finalist for the the Lou Henson Award last season, given to the nation's top mid-major player, after being the only player in the country to average over 17 points and seven assists per game. He was ranked as the 73rd best player in the NCAA by CBS Sports last month.
Also returning for the Golden Grizzlies this season are 2014-15 Horizon League All-Freshman Team selections Jalen Hayes and Nick Daniels. Hayes averaged 11.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in league play. He was named Horizon League Freshman of the Week a league-best seven times last season. Daniels led the league with a .486 field goal percentage from behind the arc.
Oakland will welcome three transfers to the team this season as well. Redshirt senior Percy Gibson sat out last season after transferring from Iowa State. Fellow ISU transfer Sherron Dorsey-Walker will be eligible right away due to an NCAA waiver, while Texas transfer Martez Walker will be eligible after the fall semester.
The Golden Grizzlies continue the exhibition season on Nov. 11 as they host Heidelberg with tip set for 7 p.m. The regular season will open on Nov. 18 at home against Eastern Michigan starting at 7 p.m.
