Jan. 22, 2015 ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland track and field team travels to the state of Indiana to compete in two events this weekend, January 23-24. A majority of the men's and women's team will compete at the Mastodon Duals held at the IPFW Athletics Center in Fort Wayne, Ind. Additionally, 11 student-athletes will travel to Bloomington, Ind. to compete at the Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana University at the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse.
Both teams are coming off a solid performance at the Jack Skoog Dual (Jan. 16) in which the Golden Grizzlies claimed seven combined events to finish second behind host Central Michigan.
Nicholas Girodat was named Horizon League Runner of the Week for the period of Jan. 13-19. He claimed the 60m run title with a time of 6.92 which was .02 seconds faster than his winning time at last season's Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Championship. For the second consecutive meet, Girodat also finished second in the long jump with a mark of 22 feet, 1 inch.
Aaron Davis claimed the 200 meter title at 22.33 while Derrek Williams took the 400m crown at 51.73. Matthew Jordan captured the triple jump title at 41 feet 7.75 inches while Chris Scott led the way in the 800m with a time of 1:57.17 followed by Geoffrey Williston and David Koponen who finished second and third at 1:57.98 and 1:58.02 respectively to complete the sweep.
For the women, Sydney Sterlingwon the 400m with a time 1:01:58 while Serena San Cartier took the 60m hurdles title at 8.85. Ashley Burralso finished second in the mile run at 5:12.46.
Due to transportation issues, both teams did not compete in last season's Mastodon Duals.
