NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Robby Enslen had three hits and two RBIs, while Jake Morton also drove in a pair of runs as the Oakland Baseball team (4-7) dropped both games of a doubleheader to Lipscomb (8-8), 8-7 and 7-2, on Saturday at Ken Dugan Field.
"We were in a great position to win game one behind a great start by Tim Koons and solid offensive and defensive play," said coach John Musachio. "However, we couldn't close it out. Game two, we dug ourselves a hole with defensive mistakes and a few bad pitches that proved too much to overcome."
In game one, Oakland scored three runs in the second inning as as Morton drove in two runs with a double down the right-field line followed by a RBI-double by Tyler Janish. OU added another run in the third as Enslen doubled and later scored on a wild pitch.
Lipscomb cut the lead to 4-3 with a run in the bottom of the third and added two in the fifth on a RBI-double by Tyler Bethune and later a sacrifice fly by Jonathon Allison. After OU added a run in the eighth as Ian Yetsko scored on a single up the middle by Jared Theisen, the Bison responded with five runs in the bottom half for their first lead of the game, 8-5. Hunter Hanks drove in two with a triple to center field and Drew Adams singled in two runs.
Oakland would come close to sending the game to extra innings as Andre Sopena and Drumheller scored on a fielding error by the right fielder but Lipscomb was able to get the final out for the 8-7 final score.
Logan Sparkman (0-2) took the loss throwing 0.2 innings giving up three runs, one earned, on two hits. Oakland starter Tim Koons threw 7.0 innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits and struck out eight batters. LU's Tyson Ashcraft earned the win in relief throwing 2.0 innings allowing three runs, one earned, on three hits.
Oakland scored seven runs on nine hits and committed two errors. Lipscomb scored eight runs on six hits with three errors.
In the nightcap, the Bison jumped out 3-0 in the first inning capitalizing on three errors by the Golden Grizzlies as Grant Massey and Tyson Ashcraft each drove in a run. Lipscomb would score another three runs in the fifth as Austin Sistrunk hit a two-run home run.
Oakland would score in the top of the sixth as Enslen hit a sacrifice fly to score Janish and in the eighth inning with a RBI-single to left field by Enslen to score Yetsko.
Jake Paulson (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season throwing 5.0 innings, giving up four earned runs and striking out five batters. Nick Andros earned the win throwing 6.0 innings, allowing one run on three this and struck out seven.
OU scored two runs on seven hits with four errors. LU scored seven runs on six hits and had one error.
The Golden Grizzlies will conclude their four-game series with Lipscomb on Sunday starting at 2 p.m. ET.
