NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Trent Pell had two hits and scored two runs, while Trent Drumheller and Robby Enslen each drove in two runs but the Oakland baseball team (4-5) fell in the series opener to Lipscomb (6-8), 13-6, Friday evening at Ken Dugan Field.
"We just didn't play strong enough fundamental baseball tonight," said head coach John Musachio. "All areas of our game were sloppy. We have a resilient team that we know will bounce back and play better baseball tomorrow."
Oakland scored in the first inning as Drumheller hit a sacrifice fly to score Pell who led off the game with a triple to right field. Lipscomb answered with four runs as Josh Lee hit a three-run home run to left field.
The Bison added two more runs in the second but the Golden Grizzlies responded with five runs in the top of the third inning. Drumheller drove in his second run of the game and Enslen hit a two-RBI double to center field to tie the game at 6-6. Lipscomb would pull away in the seventh inning as Drew Adams hit a three-run triple down the right-field line for the final score of 13-6.
Jason Hager (1-1) suffered his first loss of the season throwing 5.0 innings giving up eight earned runs on 10 hits and striking out four batters. LU's Ian Martinez-McGraw earned the victory throwing 6.0 innings giving up five earned runs on six hits and struck out six.
The Golden Grizzlies finished with six runs on six hits with one error. The Bison had 13 runs on 13 hits and committed three errors.
OU will be back on the field on Saturday as they take on Lipscomb in a doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. ET at Ken Dugan Field.
