YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Serena San Cartier, Jeff Arirguzo, Nicholas Girodat, Chris Scott and Bryce Stroede each were individual champions as Oakland completed action at the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday.

"Today was a very special day for a very young program," said coach Paul Rice. "The way these athletes performed today in our first Horizon League Championship was nothing short of exciting! To come away with five individual champions was unbelievable, and two of them are freshman. For the men to go from last to third today was an amazing ride to be on. One huge accomplishment was Serena winning the first individual league championship for our women in the history of the program. I am very happy for Nick who won newcomer of the meet. Wha a proud day for our athletes, coaches, and alumni."

Girodat won the 60m dash in 6.94 just narrowly missing the school record of 6.88 and was named Horizon League Freshman Track Athlete of the Championship. San Cartier earned a victory in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.72 and Jeff Arirguzo was victorious in the 200m dash with a time of 21.68. Chris Scott earned a victory in the 800m when he finished in 1:52.96 and Bryce Stroede ran the mile in 4:10.53 to win the event.
