PRIMM, Nev. - Mark Foster posted a final round 75, while Jake Thompson and Alex Waelchli each shot 77 to lead a shorthanded Oakland men's golf team to a 10th-place finish at the Jackrabbit Invitational on Tuesday at Primm Valley Desert Course. The Golden Grizzlies shot 307 in their final 18 holes, despite only playing with 4 of 5 players due to an illness to their fifth player.
"We showed a lot of heart battling four versus five this week," said OU coach Russ Cunningham. "We definitely have some areas to work on, but we beat several teams shorthanded and that's something they should all be proud of."
Oakland shot a three-round total of 911 (+47). UNLV won the team title with an overall score of 845 (-19), 20 shots clear of Utah Valley.
Foster tallied his first top-25 finish this season, ending with a total of 225 (+9) and in a tie for 23rd place. Evan Bowser finished in a tie for 29th place with a score of 226 (+10).
UNLV's Kurt Kitayama took home medalist honors after shooting a 68 in his final round to post a 7-under-par score of 209. He beat Utah Valley's Brayden Eriksen by two shots.
The Golden Grizzlies will compete in the Memphis Intercollegiate in their next event, March 31- April 1, in Cordova, Tenn. at Colonial Country Club.
