2014 NCAA Zone C Day One Results
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Junior diver Tricia Grant finished in 11th place in women's 1-meter diving Thursday afternoon at the NCAA Zone C Diving Qualifier, hosted by Ohio State University at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
In the preliminary round against 45 of the region's top divers, Grant placed eighth with an overall score of 290.30 to advance to the finals. There, against the top 18 divers, Grant faltered early but finished strong to score a total of 559.30 for an 11th place finish.
"Tricia was only six points out of second place after the prelims," Oakland diving coach Larry Albright said. "Overall, we're a little disappointed with today's results, but Tricia has another chance tomorrow."
The top four divers from each of five NCAA zones are guaranteed advancement to the 2014 NCAA Championship. The 41-diver field is then filled out by the top remaining performances from each zone.
Grant's participation at Zone C Diving was the third of her career and marked the second straight season the junior from West Bloomfield, Mich., advanced to the finals. Last season, Grant finished 13th in Zone C on the 1-meter board.
Grant will also compete in the women's 3-meter diving Friday, March 14. Events begin at 11 a.m. ET. Live results are available here.
