ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies (9-16, 4-6) will try and snap a two-game skid as they travel to Valparaiso, Ind. for a Horizon League battle with the Crusaders (14-11, 6-4) on Sunday. The game can be watched on the Horizon League Network or listened to on OU's flagship station WDFN-AM (1130), beginning at 2:35 p.m. ET.
NCAA RECORD HOLDER
Senior Travis Bader pushed his all-time NCAA 3-pointers record to 471 with 10 triples on Thursday night versus Cleveland State. He surpassed former Duke standout (2002-06) and current NBA player J.J. Redick's 457.
SERIES
Oakland has won six of the last seven meetings with Valpo and trail the all-time series 17-6. The Golden Grizzlies have won three straight, including a come-from-behind 75-70 victory in the O'rena on Jan. 4th. OU trailed by 15 points in the second half of that game.
SCOUTING VALPARAISO
The Crusaders are in third place in the league standings and are the only team to defeat first-place Green Bay, 75-60, inside the ARC. Valpo has won two of its last three games and are 9-4 at home this season.
LaVonte Dority is fifth in the Horizon League in scoring, averaging 17.1 points per game. He was named player of the week after scoring a career-high 33 points at UIC and helping the Crusaders defeat Green Bay earlier in the week.
ACTIVE NCAA LEADERS
Bader ranks second among NCAA active scoring leaders with 2,172 points, trailing only John Wooden Award frontrunner Doug McDermott's (Creighton) 2,741 points.
Bader's 10 3-pointers made in a single game versus Eastern Michigan (12/21) and Cleveland State (2/6) is tied for second in the country this season. Georgia State's R.J. Hunter made 12 threes against UTSA (12/22). Senior Duke Mondy's seven steals against Indiana (12/10) and then-No. 5 Michigan State (12/14) is tied for sixth in the NCAA this season, while junior Corey Petros' career-best 19 rebounds against EMU is tied for 14th-best in the nation.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Kahlil Felder was named Horizon League Freshman of the Week for the fifth time. The Detroit native leads the league with 6.0 assists per game (15th in the country) and has reached double figures in 14 games. He dished out a league-high 12 assists against Youngstown State (1/31), adding 19 points for his first-ever double-double.
700
Oakland picked up its 700th all-time win against Youngstown State on Jan. 31st. This is the 47th season of competition for OU.
FEBRUARY DOMINANCE
Despite starting 0-2 this year, the Golden Grizzlies hold the nation's third-best record over the last six seasons at 31-7 (.838). Gonzaga leads the way at 39-5 (.886).
The Grizzlies' 20-game home court February winning streak came to a halt last Thursday night against Cleveland State, 92-85. The previous last loss at home was to IPFW in 2008, 71-66.
COMEBACK GRIZZLIES
In all four league wins this season, the Golden Grizzlies have overcame double-digit deficits in the second half. OU trailed by 15 points in the win against Valpo (1/4), were down by 11 at Detroit (1/11), and responded from 11 points down in consecutive games against UIC (1/25) and Youngstown State (1/31).
30 YEARS, 1 COACH
Greg Kampe is the third-longest tenured coach at one school, sitting behind Syracuse's Jim Boeheim (38th season) and Duke's Mike Krzyzewski (34th season). Kampe became the fifth active D-I coach to reach 500 wins at one school last season and has coached 897 games at Oakland.
