OAKLAND TENNIS DEFEATS STATE COLLEGE OF FLORIDA, 5-2

BRADENTON, Fla. - Juliana Guevara and Rebecca Phyle were two-time winners as the Oakland women's tennis team (3-6) won their second dual in as many days and third of its trip in Florida Tuesday evening with a 5-2 victory over the State College of Florida.

Guevara paired with Karine Celis to score a key 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles, a win that secured the doubles point for the Golden Grizzlies. Guevara then notched a solid 6-1, 6-1 straight-set win at No. 5 singles.

Phyle and No. 3 doubles partner Cam Sabourin cruised to an 8-2 doubles win early before her 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.

Tamara Blum and Elizabeth Guy, who were edged 8-6 in their doubles match, rebounded with singles victories to bolster Oakland's effort. Blum posted a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles while Guy took the first set 7-6 (4) before her opponent retired.

Next up for the Golden Grizzlies is an 11 a.m. match against Florida Atlantic Wednesday, Feb. 26 in Boca Raton, Fla.
