CoSIDA Acadmic All-District 5 honorees
ROCHESTER, Mich. -​ Junior middle hitter Amanda Baker was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 5 Second Team today (Nov. 6).
Baker owns a 3.96 grade-point average while working towards a bachelor's degree in health sciences. She has aided Oakland in earning AVCA team academic awards and has been a four-time Dean's List honoree.
On the court, Baker ranks eighth in the Horizon League and first on the team in blocks this season and is seventh all-time in Oakland history in career blocks (258). Baker also has a .234 hitting percentage this season. She also was named to both the Western Michigan Bronco Classic All-Tournament team and Army Black Knights Invitational All-Tournament team.
The 2014 Capital One Academic All-District® Women's Volleyball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.District 5, one of eight districts across the United States and Canada, encompasses Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution.
Oakland (16-9, 8-2), who is tied for first in the Horizon League, will face UIC Friday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. CT.
