Oct. 5, 2014 Complete Results IOWA CITY, Iowa - Alyssa Albright shot a final round 76 to lead the Oakland women's golf team to a tie for ninth place (969/+105) on Sunday of the Diane Thomason Invitational at Finkbine Golf Club.
"Nice to see Alyssa bounce back, if it was not for the double and a couple short putts missed she hit it good enough to shoot par or better," said head coach Russ Cunningham. "Really proud with how we responded in the first round under tough conditions but the last two rounds the team did not take advantage of the opportunity to perform to their full potential because they are letting emotion and excuses interfere with the decision making process. Everybody needs to do better or work harder."
Albright's final round was the best round for Oakland in the tournament and moved her into a tie for 47th place with a 244 (+28). Elle Nichols was the top finisher for the Golden Grizzlies with a 239 (+23) to share 26th place, while Marianna Stepp finished tied for 43rd with a 243 (+27).
Illinois' Dana Gattone and Northern Illinois' Lena Gautier share medalist honors by carding a 10-over-par 226. The Fighting Illini captured the team title with an overall score of 917 (+53), 14 strokes in front of host Iowa and 19 shots ahead of Wichita State.
The Golden Grizzlies will be on the course for their final Fall tournament Oct. 20-21 when they travel to the University of Dayton Fall Invitational at NCR Country Club North Course.
