Rochester, Mich. - The Oakland men's and women's swimming and diving teams hope their years of storied success in the Summit League transition with them to the Horizon League for the 2013-14 campaign, as the program announced its 2013-14 competition schedule Tuesday (Aug. 13).
The Golden Grizzlies will begin the season at Michigan Sept. 28 before returning home for an action-packed October at the OU Aquatic Center. After the Black and Gold intrasquad Oct. 4 and the Alumni meet Oct. 5, Oakland resumes regular season competition with UIC at home Oct. 12. Oakland will also host the OLY Fall Classic on the men's side Oct. 18-20 and Illinois for the women Oct. 26.
Other home dates for Oakland include Wright State, Bowling Green (women) and Wayne State in November followed by Senior Day against Cleveland State and Xavier in January.
Other highlights on the Golden Grizzlies' schedule are trips to Michigan State Jan. 23 and a five-team meet with Ohio State, Ashland and Cincinnati at Kenyon College Jan. 17-18. Oakland will also travel to Duquesne (women), Eastern Michigan for a November dual and an invitational in December, and IUPUI.
The 2014 Horizon League Championships will be hosted by Cleveland State University Feb. 26-March 1. NCAA Diving Zones are slated for March 7-8 at Ohio State. Women's NCAA Championships will be held March 20-22 in Minneapolis, Minn., while the Men's NCAA Championships will follow on March 27-29 in Austin, Texas.
Last season, both the Oakland men's and women's swimming and diving teams earned their 14th consecutive Summit League championships.
