ROCHESTER, Mich. - Trent Drumheller and Mike Brosseau each had two hits as the Oakland Baseball team (15-32, 10-12) dropped the series finale to Omaha (22-21, 15-5), 7-2, on Sunday at the OU Baseball Field.
"Today was our fifth game in four days and I believe our players gave everything they had today," said coach John Musachio. "Jake Paulson pitched very well against a very good hitting team. In the end, we didn't make plays that we typically make down the stretch."
OU jumped out to an early lead in the third inning as Drumheller hit a RBI single to score Brosseau who hit a double down the left-field line with two outs. After UNO tied the game in the fifth inning, Todd Dunham would put the Golden Grizzlies back on top in the sixth inning with a double to score a run and lead 2-1.
Omaha would score five runs in the top of the eighth inning led by Alex Schultz with a two-RBI double, while Ryan Keele and Cole Gruber each hit RBI singles to go up 6-2. The Mavericks would add one more run in the ninth inning for the final score of 7-2.
Jake Paulson (2-8) took the loss throwing 7.1 innings, giving up six runs, two earned, scattering eight hits and striking out five batters. Omaha's Zach Williamsen (3-1) earned the win throwing 7.1 innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits.
The Golden Grizzlies will continue their homestand on Tuesday when they host Fort Wayne in a mid-week Summit League doubleheader starting at noon at the OU Baseball Field.
