April 7, 2013

Box Score

OMAHA, Neb. - Todd Dunham went 3-for-5 and Robby Enslen went 3-for-4 in game two to lead Oakland (7-20, 2-2) in a Summit League doubleheader loss to Omaha (10-15, 4-0), 7-0 and 7-4, on Sunday at the Ballpark at BoysTown. The Golden Grizzlies committed four errors in the nightcap.

"Omaha outplayed us in every facet of the game today," said OU coach John Musachio.

The two teams combined for 27 hits in the nightcap with the Mavericks holding a 14-13 edge. The Golden Grizzlies trailed 5-0 after two innings of play, courtesy of two errors in the second inning which led to four runs.

OU responded with a run in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth inning. Nolan Jacoby singled to right field to plate Enslen who doubled in the fourth, while Mike Brosseau and Mike Carson each drove in runs as the lead was down to 6-3.

Oakland would get within two runs in the seventh inning as Dunham reached on an infield single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and later scored on a fielding error. The Mavericks added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning to close out the game and win by three.

In game one, right-handed pitcher Matt Tew (1-3) tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout, striking out seven and faced just two over the minimum. With a 2-0 lead, the Mavericks scored five runs on six hits in the sixth inning to bust the game open.

Carson had the only hit for the Golden Grizzlies in the opener. He has reached base safely in eight straight games, and 23 of 27 games played this season.

OU will step out of conference this Wednesday with a scheduled game at Central Michigan. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. and can be followed on GameTracker.
