Oakland Drops Series Finale to South Dakota State, 6-4

PAPILLION, Neb. - Mike Carson went 2-for-3, with a home run, and Robby Enslen finished 2-for-4, as Oakland (11-27, 6-8) dropped a 6-4 Summit League game to South Dakota State (21-14, 7-5) on Sunday at Fricke Field. The Golden Grizzlies had nine hits, while the Jackrabbits tallied 13.

"Two-out hitting was the difference in today's game," said OU coach John Musachio. "We had our chances and couldn't capitalize, while South Dakota State did."

Also driving in runs for Oakland was Mike Brosseau and Jared Theisen. Right-handed pitcher Chris Van Dyke (3-3) took the loss on the mound, throwing 5.2 innings, allowing eight hits, four earned runs, walked three and struck out one.

Scott Splett went 3-for-4 to lead the Jackrabbits, driving in two runs. RHP Adam Bray (5-1) earned the win for SDSU, throwing 6.0 innings, giving up six hits, three runs, two earned runs and fanned three.

Carson homered in the top of the first inning, his second of the season, as OU led early. The Golden Grizzlies added runs in the fourth and fifth innings as Theisen drove in a run and Kyle Bobolts scored on a wild pitch as the Golden Grizzlies led 3-2 after five complete innings.

The Jackrabbits took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on three straight singles with two outs and then a bases loaded walk as SDSU led for the first time in the game, 4-3. The Jacks tacked on runs in the seventh and eighth innings to extend their lead to three, 6-3.

The Golden Grizzlies' Trent Drumheller tripled down the right-field line and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Brosseau as the game ended 6-4. SDSU's J.D. Moore earned his league-leading eighth save of the season, throwing the final 2.0 innings, allowing one run and struck out three.

OU will travel to Fargo, N.D. for a four-game league series next weekend, May 3-5. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
