Oakland Basketball Season Review

After playing its first 15 of 19 games on the road, the Oakland men's basketball team was able to finish the regular season 16-15 and earned the No. 4 seed at The Summit League tournament after going 10-6. The Golden Grizzlies competed in their fifth consecutive NCAA postseason, receiving a bid to the CollegeInsider.comPostseason tournament.

Unfortunately, the Golden Grizzlies fell in the opening round of the league and postseason tournaments. OU ended the season at 16-17, its first losing season since 2005-06. For the first time in Summit League history, the league produced a pair of NCAA statistical champions in a single season. Travis Bader led the country with 4.21 3-pointers made per game and Mondy led the nation with 3.03 steals per game.

2012-13 HIGHLIGHTS

â-ª Greg Kampe became the 5th active coach to reach 500 wins at the same school; 21st active coach in Division I

â-ª Travis Bader led the country with 139 3-pointers made, setting a new Summit League and school record

â-ª Duke Mondy set a new school record with 100 steals (T3 in league history), leading the NCAA and giving Oakland its third NCAA statistical champion in four years (Johnathon Jones in assists, 2010 / Reggie Hamilton in scoring, 2012)

â-ª Bader was a finalist for the Lou Henson Award, given to the nation's top mid-major player; He finished 5th in the country with 22.1 points per game

â-ª Drew Valentine ended his career with 136 games played, 2nd-most in school history (1 behind the school record of 137 by Will Hudson - 2007-11)

â-ª Bader hit a 3-pointer in every game this season and enters 2013-14 with the nation's longest streak, currently at 53

â-ª The Golden Grizzlies won 10 or more league games for the 7th consecutive season and 10 of 14 inside The Summit League

â-ª Oakland is 31-4 in the month of February since 2009, 2nd-best in the country

â-ª Bader set a new school record with 11 3-pointers vs. IUPUI (1/24) and finished with the 2nd-best NCAA scoring output, 47 points; He was named National Player of the Week by ESPN's Dick Vitale and earned Capital One Peak Performance of the Week for the 2nd time in his career (2012 and '13)

â-ª OU finished the season 6-1 in games decided by 3 points or less

â-ª The Black and Gold won 10 games inside the O'rena for the 7th straight year, finishing 10-2

â-ª The Golden Grizzlies faced 9 teams inside the top 100 of the final RPI rankings; No. 6 Michigan State (27-9), No. 46 Pitt (24-9), No. 50 Boise State (21-11), No. 60 Valpo (26-8), No. 64 Alabama (23-13), No. 66 Tennessee (20-13), No. 70 South Dakota State (25-10), No. 76 Ohio (24-10) and No. 88 North Dakota State (24-10)
