ELMHURST, Ill. - The Oakland men's and women's swimming and diving teams combined to place a league-high six student-athletes on The Summit League Academic All-League teams, as voted on by the seven institution's faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors, and announced by the league office today.
Oakland led the way with a league-best four selections on the men's team. Representing the Golden Grizzlies were Grant Harding, Jordan Moses, Josh Wolf and Ian Wood. Harding, an elementary education major with a 3.39 grade-point average (GPA), won the 100-yard freestyle (44.48) and was second in the 50 free (20.49) and 100 backstroke with an NCAA `B' cut time (48.48) at the championships. At the league meet, Moses finished fifth in the 200 back (1:51.22) and 200 IM (1:53.15) and is an elementary education major with a 3.45 GPA. Wolf, a health science major with a 3.37 GPA took fourth in the 100 butterfly (50.03) and fifth in the 200 fly (1:52.08) at the championships. Wood is a mechanical engineering with a 3.53 GPA.
The OU women's team tied for a league-high two selections. Sandra Czerska and Kyra Rietveld were the Golden Grizzlies on the squad. Czerska, an accounting/management major with a 3.36 GPA, was named the 2013 Swimmer of the Championship after winning three individual events with two NCAA `B' cut times and recording a league and pool record in the 100 fly (53.97), while winning the 200 fly (2:00.18), 200 IM (2:00.97). Rietveld was a part of the OU 200 free league-record relay squad (1:32.84), finished second in the 50 free (23.48), third in the 100 back (55.02 - NCAA `B' cut time) and fourth in the 200 back (2:01.09) and is an art history major with a 3.91 GPA.
Oakland captured its 14th consecutive Summit League Championships last week at the OU Aquatic Center.
