OAKLAND RALLY FALLS SHORT AGAINST ST. FRANCIS BROOKLYN, 68-62

CONWAY, S.C. - Travis Bader scored a game-high 30 points and Corey Petros added 13 to lead Oakland (0-6) in a 68-62 loss to St. Francis Brooklyn (3-3) in the consolation game of the mainland bracket of the Maui Invitational on Sunday at the HTC Center. The Golden Grizzlies went scoreless for over nine minutes in the first half.

Jalen Cannon led the Terriers with 22 points and nine rebounds. Brent Jones posted 11 points, 10 in the second half, while Sheldon Hagigal added 10.

Down eight with 3:09 left in the game, the Golden Grizzlies went on an 8-0 run, capped by consecutive 3-pointers by Bader and Mitch Baenziger to tie the game at 60 with just under two minutes remaining.

Both teams traded baskets and then Cannon scored on a layup, adding the free throw after the foul to give SFB a three-point play to lead 65-62 with 33 seconds on the game clock. The Grizzlies had two chances to tie the game on 3-pointers by Bader and Baenziger, but both shots missed the mark. The Terriers grabbed the rebound and made free throws at the other end to close out the game.

The Golden Grizzlies trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half after going over nine minutes without a field goal (11:21 to 2:06). Bader then knocked down a big 3-pointer to close out the first half as St. Francis Brooklyn led by nine at the intermission, 29-20.

Oakland will try and avoid its second 0-7 start in Division I history this Tuesday at Western Michigan. The Golden Grizzlies lost their first seven games of the 2004-05 season before picking up their first win. That year OU earned its first-ever NCAA tournament bid, winning the Mid-Con tournament as the No. 7 seed.
