TRAVIS BADER NAMED CANDIDATE FOR SENIOR CLASS AWARD

Oct. 30, 2013

Bader's Senior CLASS Award Profile

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Oakland men's basketball player Travis Bader was named as one of 30 candidates for the 2013-14 Senior CLASS Award, announced on Wednesday. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.

Bader led the nation with a school record 139 3-pointers made last season. He finished fifth in the country by scoring 22.1 points per game. Bader also set a new school record with 357 career triples, 100 shy of the NCAA record set by Duke's J.J. Redick (2002-06) who finished with 457 in 139 games played. In the classroom, he graduated in three years with his undergrad degree in communications and is currently earning his master's degree in communications. Bader is also a two-time D-IAAA Scholar-Athlete selection. In the community he serves as a mentor and reading tutor for several elementary and middle schools and spends time teaching basketball drills to local schools.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Each of the 30 candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplify excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.

Bader joins Youngstown State's Kendrick Perry as the only Horizon League players to be nominated for the honor.
