ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Victoria Lipscomb had a double-double to lead Oakland (7-10, 1-4), which lost 60-59 on a last-second basket to North Dakota State (6-11, 2-3) at the Athletics Center O'rena on Saturday. The game was the inaugural Awareness Without Fear Game and raised over $2,300 in donations for HAVEN and CARE House of Oakland County.

"We improved our rebounding and were one turnover away from pulling out the victory," said OU head coach Beckie Francis. "I thought Elena Popkey and Victoria Lipscomb kept us in the game offensively and we just came up one basket short."

Lipscomb powered the Golden Grizzlies with 14 points and 10 rebounds. With the score tied 50-50, Lipscomb blocked a shot and scored on the other end. She stole a pass on the next possession and fed Sinclair Russell to put OU in front by four. The Golden Grizzlies led 59-55 with 4:04 to play, before the Bison ended the game on a 5-0 run.

Oakland led 59-58 with 24 seconds to play, when Marena Whittle forced a tie-up and the possession arrow gave the ball to NDSU. Whittle then hit a turnaround in the lane with just over three seconds left to win the game for the Bison.

Elena Popkey had 13 points to go with six rebounds and a career-high seven assists. Olivia Nash also reached double-digits with 11 points. The Golden Grizzlies shot 41 percent from the field and won the rebounding battle 41-37.

Katie Birkel led North Dakota State with 22 points, while Holly Johnson came off the bench to score 10. Whittle had a career-high 15 rebounds and scored four points. The Bison shot 36.5 percent from the field, but were 6-for-15 from three-point range.

The game featured a special halftime ceremony that recognized the Michigan legislators who championed the passage of Erin's Law, which was signed into law on Wednesday and helps educate and protect children. The law's namesake, Erin Merryn, was an honorary coach and joined the OU bench during the game.

OU donated a portion of the paid admissions from the game to HAVEN and CARE House and presented the organizations with a check at halftime.

Oakland returns to league action agaisnt Kansas City on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET. The game against the Kangaroos is the first of a three-game road swing.
