ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland men's and women's swim teams will be swimming a 12-hour continuous relay on March 31 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the OU Aquatic Center to support the "Water to Water" foundation run by the Thirst Relief International.

Thirst Relief International, based in Westerville, Ohio, is a group dedicated to providing clean water solutions to those around the world that are unable to do so on their own, due to poverty or other constraints.

Water to Water, will result in over 30 miles being swum for the cause. The event is also open to other Oakland University students who enjoy swimming and want to dedicate their workout to the cause.

Thirst Relief has estimated 1.1 billion people are without clean drinkable water and an estimated 2 million people die every year from water related illnesses. 90% of these deaths are children under the age of 5. The World Health organization has declared a water crisis among these people.

"Water to Water is an opportunity for student athletes to use their talents to help those who have nothing" said Water to Water founder Ben Savonen, a former Ohio State University swimmer. "I know that, while challenging, being a student athlete is a huge blessing that few get to experience. Student athletes learn the importance of being a good citizen and Water to Water gives them a chance to learn and become a better Global citizen through their sport", he said.

All proceeds from Water to Water will go directly to helping those who do not have fresh, clean drinkable water. Just $5 can save a life.
