HOUSTON - Travis Bader scored a game-high 23 points and drilled a 3-pointer with 42 seconds left to give Oakland the lead for good as the Golden Grizzlies (2-3) defeated Texas Southern (1-4), 71-69, on Tuesday night at the Health and Physical Education Center. Bader went 7 of 12 from beyond the arc.

Corey Petros added 18 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Grizzlies. Drew Valentine finished with eight points, seven rebounds and five assists.

The Golden Grizzlies trailed through the midway point of the first half until a 16-3 run gave them the lead and OU outscored the Tigers 18-6 over the final 7:27 of the first half and led 35-30.

That five-point lead would be the most for the Grizzlies in the game. There were eight lead changes in the second half and four ties as TSU led by four, 69-65, with 2:21 left in the game. Lloyd Neely II would score a layup on a big offensive rebound and Bader would drill a three to give Oakland back the lead, 70-69, with just 42 seconds left in the game.

Ryan Bass got a big steal on the other end and was quickly fouled with 16 seconds remaining. He split the free throws to give the Golden Grizzlies a two-point edge. Oakland would once again foil the Tigers' attempt to tie the game with a turnover and hold on for the 71-69 victory.

The Golden Grizzlies will travel to No. 15 Michigan State (3-1) after Thanksgiving for a Friday night match-up. Game time is set for 8:15 p.m. and will be televised on the Big Ten Network. The game can also be heard on OU's flagship station WDFN-AM (1130).
