ROCHESTER, Mich. - Sophomore Meghan Bray had 24 kills and 15 digs for the Gold Team while freshman Audrey Wilson notched 12 kills for the Black Team as Gold beat Black 2-1 (25-22, 24-26, 25-22) at the annual Black-Gold Scrimmage on Saturday at the Athletics Center O'Rena.
"I'm really pleased with the level of volleyball between both teams," said head coach Rob Beam. "When all 17 players can compete in a match that is this well played, it shows the depth that we have and that is something we will have to take advantage of this season. Meghan had a double-double tonight and Audrey had double digits in her first match and that type of production from our outside hitters is nice to see so early in the season."
For the Gold, junior Ashley Nevelle quarterbacked the squad with 38 assists and adding 10 digs. Senior Brittany Dunn led the defensive charge with 20 digs, one of four players in double-figures. Joining Dunn was junior Lauren Milosek with 11 and sophomore Amber Miehlke with 10.
For the Black, freshman Alissa Valentine had 16 digs with two service aces. Sophomore Alli Kirk had 14 digs while junior Allison Bell came away with three blocks.
Oakland opens the season, Friday, August 27 at the NIU Invitational in DeKalb, Ill. The Golden Grizzlies will play South Dakota at 2:00 p.m. and Northern Illinois at 7:00 p.m.
