TOLEDO, Ohio - Sophomore Megan Enzor finished day one of the heptathlon in the top-three with a third place score of 2,816 points after four events, highlighting the Oakland University track and field team's first day of competition at The Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the UT Track and Field Facility.

"Considering we went into this with a lot of unknowns, and hosting the meet and the schedule changes, the kids hung in there pretty well," said head coach Paul Rice. "Having Megan in third place after day one is awesome."

In the women's 10,000-meter run, senior Sara Lieblein scored for the Black and Gold, finishing in seventh place with a time of 37:32.99. Sophomore Pat Cassady paved the way for the Golden Grizzlies in the men's 10,000 run, finishing in sixth place with a time of 31:24.56, while teammate Brandon Griffin finished right behind him in seventh with a mark of 31:29.75. Senior Ross Solanskey finished just shy of scoring for OU, coming in ninth (31:32.79).

"Sara stood out more than the rest," said Rice. "She had never run a 10K before and coming through and scoring for us is great. Getting two guys among the top eight was also really nice.

Senior Joe Suchoski and sophomore Ryan Balzer ended day one of the decathlon in scoring position with respective seventh and eighth place scores of 2,897 and 2,881 points.

In javelin action, Balzer earned a spot in the finals, throwing an eighth-place finish of 161 feet, five inches. Junior Anthony Halfmann finished just inside the top-10 in the hammer throw (158 feet, nine inches).

At the end of day one, Southern Utah leads the men's competition with 28 points. They are followed by North Dakota State (26) and South Dakota State (25) for a close race at the top. UMKC (16), Oral Roberts (10) and Oakland and Western Illinois (both tied in sixth with six points) round out the field.

For the women, SUU also leads with 48 points, with Oral Roberts in second with 28, IPFW with 15 in third and SDSU in fourth with 12. North Dakota State (11), Oakland (two) and WIU (one) complete the field after three events scored.

The Golden Grizzlies will continue championship action tomorrow with the men's 110-meter hurdles, discus and pole vault scheduled for an 11 a.m. start. Live results can be followed at www.ougrizzlies.com.
