Associate Head Coach's Wife Featured in National Publication

Aug. 26, 2009

ROCHESTER, Mich. - There is no questioning the influence of associate head coach Shawn Kornoelje on the Oakland University swimming and diving program. In his four years at OU, he has helped guide the Golden Grizzlies to four straight Summit League titles, as well as mentoring the long distance swimmers, including two-time Swimmer of the Year Sophia Gustafsson.

But it is another athlete he has coached that is closest to his heart. His wife, Cheryl Angelelli-Kornoelje, has overcome a paralyzing injury to achieve a multitude of success as a Paralympic swimmer. Angelelli has competed in three Paralympics, most recently in 2008 at the age of 40. She has earned a total of two bronze and two silver medals throughout her years of competition.

Angelelli-Kornoelje was recently featured in an article in Swimming World Magazine, which can be read here.
