BROOKINGS, S.D. - Senior Adrienne Leone turned in a 12-kill performance, hitting .256, while freshman Brittany Holbrook hit .529 on the strength of a nine-kill effort as the Oakland University volleyball team (14-5, 7-4 Summit League) rolled to a 3-0 sweep over South Dakota State (6-13, 5-6 Summit League) on Saturday at Frost Arena.
Oakland won a 25-17 decision in the opening set, and continued to a 25-18 win in set two and a 25-15 win in the third and final set. The Golden Grizzlies were consistently solid throughout the entire match, hitting over .300 in each set, including a match-high .382 in the second set.
Sophomore Ashley Nevelle led all players with 37 assists, while junior libero Brittany Dunn turned in a 16-dig performance. Oakland turned in three team blocks, with sophomores Jenna Lange and Allison Bell both turning in two block assists. Bell also added two service aces.
Lange and freshman Meghan Bray also notched eight kills apiece, with both players hitting over .300 for the match.
OU held a .354 to .158 hitting advantage for the match, holding SDSU to a match-low .129 percentage in the second set. Oakland registered just nine attack errors over the course of the match.
The Golden Grizzlies return to action on Friday, Oct. 23, as Oakland hosts Oral Roberts at the Athletics Center O'Rena. A 7 p.m. match is scheduled.
