Unold Wins at Polish Olympic Trials

ROCHESTER, Mich. ???C Oakland University is on the verge of being represented in swimming at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Sophomore Marcin Unold swam a personal best of 55.71 to win the 100-meter backstroke at the Polish National Championships, Friday night. The championships serve as the olympic qualifying meet. The only thing standing in his way is hitting the Olympic qualifying time of 55.14. Unold will take a shot at that mark as he will lead off on the 400 medley relay team Sunday afternoon.

Unold is getting stronger with each swim. In the prelims of the 100 back, he swam what was then a PR of 55.92. Unold swam 2:04.99 in the 200 back prelims on Thursday. In addition to the medley relay, he will swim in the 50 back on Saturday and the 100 freestyle on Sunday.
