Lexi Zimmerman and Lyndsay Miller contributed a combined block and a kill apiece to the run while Veronica Rood and Sarah Draves also had kills. Michigan later extended its advantage to 10 points 20-10 with kills from Rood, Zimmerman, Katie Burzdzinski and Beth Karpiak. The Golden Grizzlies got aces from sophomore
Brittany Dunn (Bowling Green, Ohio) and Duquette, but were unable to draw closer than nine and the Wolverines went on to win game one 30-21. In game two the Golden Grizzlies once again jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first three points with a kill by sophomore
Nikki Pawson (Blissfield, Mich.) and another ace from Duquette. Burzdzinski tied the game 3-3 with an ace, then the teams traded sideouts for the next four points until Megan Bower???s ace gave the Wolverines their first lead 6-5. Michigan pressed its advantage to 7-5, but Dupuie???s kill and ace helped the Golden Grizzlies regain the lead 8-7. UM scored the next four points to go up by three 11-8. OU pulled within one 12-11 as Frechen posted a kill and a block assist and remained within one until the Wolverines capitalized on a kill by Miller and an attack error to extend its lead to three 18-15. Shortly thereafter Miller had back-to-back kills to give Michigan a four-point edge 20-16. The teams traded sideouts for the next six points, then Burzdzinski served three straight points to put Michigan up by its largest margin of the game 26-19. The Golden Grizzlies put together a modest 4-1 run to draw within four 27-23. Dupuie contributed a block, a block assist and a kill to the run. But OU would pull no closer and Zimmerman???s kill sealed the 30-24 win for UM. It would be the Wolverines taking the early lead in game three, going up 7-2 with kills from Karpiak (2) and Burzdzinski, and an ace by Zimmerman. Amy Golem (Dearborn, Mich.) combined for a block. The teams tied again at 9-9 before Pawson and Golem went up for a block to give OU its first lead of the game 10-9. Michigan scored the next three points with a pair of kills by Burzdzinski to go up 12-10 and later extended the advantage to three points 16-13 with a kill by Rood. But the Golden Grizzlies capitalized on errors and a kill by Leone to knot the score 16-16. Rood???s kill and block assist put the Wolverines back on top 18-16 and they later went up by three 21-18 with an ace by Stesha Selsky. But Oakland was tenacious, scoring six of the next seven points, including a 5-0 run, to take the lead once again 25-24. Frechen and Leone each contributed two kills while Pawson and Leone combined for a block. OU maintained the one-point edge with a kill by Frechen for the 26-25 score, but the Wolverines scored five of the next six points to win the game 30-27 and seal the 3-0 victory in the match. The Golden Grizzlies open Summit League play on Friday when they travel to Centenary to face the Ladies at 8:00 p.m. eastern at the Gold Dome.
