Unold Tabbed Mid-Con Athlete of the Month

Elmhurst, Ill. (Mar. 10, 2007) ???C Oakland University swimmer Marcin Unold (Gliwice, Poland) was named Mid-Continent Conference???s February Athlete of the Month for his role in propelling the Golden Grizzlies to their unprecedented eighth straight Mid-Con Championship last month. Unold logged six victories at the Mid-Con Championships, three in individual events and as a part of three relays. He captured the 50 free with the fastest time in the league this season at 20.38 and followed that with victories in the 100 and 200 back. His times of 47.96 and 1:45.79 respectively were Mid-Con meet and Oakland school records, as well as NCAA ???B??? qualifying standards. He also made the NCAA ???B??? cut with a time of 44.37 on the leadoff leg of OU???s championship 400 free relay. He was voted the league???s Newcomer of the Year for his outstanding performance. Yesterday the field for the NCAA men???s swimming championships was announced and Unold earned spots in each of the three events in which he achieved the ???B??? qualifying standard. His top placement is the 16th seed in the 100 back according to the NCAA psych sheet. The NCAA Championships will take place March 15-17 at the University of Minnesota???s University Aquatic Center. Prelims will begin at 1:00 p.m. eastern each afternoon with finals commencing at 7:00 p.m. each night.
