Volleyball Falls to Oral Roberts

Box Score Rochester, Mich. (Sept. 30, 2006) ???C Oakland???s volleyball team had a tough task in front of it tonight as it hosted Oral Roberts, the current first-place team in the Mid-Continent Conference standings. In the end the Golden Eagles offense proved to have too much firepower this night as they swept past the Golden Grizzlies in three games by scores of 30-15, 30-12, 30-19. Sophomore Leah Dupuie (Leonard, Mich.) led OU with nine kills, the second straight match she has led the team in kills. Oakland (0-14, 0-3 Mid-Con) fought off an early deficit in game one and trailed by only three at 11-8 after an Oral Roberts (13-6, 3-0 Mid-Con) hitting error. The Golden Eagles then took control of the game by rolling off 13 straight points, six on kills from Ori Zuzic, to take a 24-9 advantage. ORU then stretched its lead to 27-10; as it went on to take the game one win. Oral Robert???s offense was in high gear in the second game, getting 21 kills to just two errors. As a result the Golden Eagles were able to jump out to a 17-3 lead as it reeled off an 18-point win. Game three started with both teams trading points back-and-forth and after a service error by ORU the Golden Eagles held just a one-point lead at 8-7. From there Oral Roberts put together another run, outscoring Oakland 9-2 to take an 18-9 advantage. The Golden Grizzlies got three straight points late, one on a kill from Amanda Morley (Holland, Mich.), but the deficit was too large to overcome as Oral Roberts stayed perfect in league play and won its 11th straight overall. Morley and Monica Frechen (Fowler, Mich.) each added five kills for Oakland. Zuzic led Oral Roberts with 17 kills. Oakland will be on the road for its next game, traveling to UMKC on Oct. 6 for an 8:00 p.m. Eastern match with the Kangaroos in Kansas City.
