The win lifted Oakland to a 3-0 start, its best beginning since the program moved to Division I status seven years ago. Jessica Erickson (Port Huron, Mich.). Lake Superior State picked up a win at No. 6 singles in a three-set match to get on the board, but Maxfield decided things with her impressive win. After dropping the first set 6-3, she came back to take the second by the same score before holding off her opponent, 7-5, in the deciding set. With the matched locked up in the Oakland win column and playing space limited, the doubles matches were not contested.
