Rawle Marshall (Detroit, Mich.) has signed a professional contract as a free agent with the Dallas Mavericks the team recently announced. Marshall completed his eligibility with Oakland last season and graduated with a degree in communications. He becomes the first Oakland men???s basketball player from its Division I era to sign with an NBA team. Details of the deal were not released by the Mavericks. Marshall signed with the Mavs after playing well in a pair of NBA summer leagues. He played in four games for the Memphis Grizzlies in the Southern California Summer Pro League before playing for Dallas in the Rocky Mountain Revue in Salt Lake City. In five games with Dallas, he averaged 10.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists in a team-high 27.4 minutes per game. Marshall also averaged 1.80 steals per game, placing him third among all players in the Rocky Mountain Revue. A first team All-Mid-Con selection and the Mid-Con Tournament MVP, Marshall led Oakland with his 19.9 and 7.7 scoring and rebounding averages. He closed the season on a high note, scoring at least 23 points in each of the last seven regular season games before averaging 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Golden Grizzlies to its first Mid-Con Tournament title and first NCAA Tournament berth. He then poured in 29 points in the opening round game at the NCAA Tournament to lead OU to a win over Alabama A&M. Marshall finished his Oakland career 10th all-time in points with 1,671 and set a school record with 101 blocked shots. He is also second in the OU record book in steals with 199.
