(May 17, 2005) ???C Oakland???s men???s soccer and women???s basketball teams carried their mid-season leads in the PAWS Top Team award standing through to the end of the season, with both squads winning the inaugural titles at Oakland. The award is presented to the team that earns the most points based on community service, personal development, athletics, career development and academic excellence. The Golden Grizzly men???s soccer squad took their title with a total of 616 points, with the men???s golf team finishing second with 231 points. On the women???s side the basketball team also picked up a win by a large margin, totaling 862 points to 462 for the second-place women???s soccer squad. Created as a tool to get student-athletes more involved in the programming of the five CHAMPS components, teams earn points based on the percentage of participation for each event that is sponsored through the PAWS program (Providing Athletes With lifeSkills).
