Dayton, Ohio (Apr. 5, 2005) ???C In a unique tournament that was played on two courses, one in Cincinnati and one in Dayton, Oakland???s women???s golf team wound up fourth in the seven-team field at the University of Cincinnati/University of Dayton Women???s Collegiate Invitational. The Golden Grizzlies opened play yesterday with a 331 at the Clovernook Country Club in Cincinnati and then fired a 336 this afternoon at the Golf Club at Yankee Trace in Dayton to total 667 for the tournament, five shots back of Butler for third.
Patricia Ellsworth (Leamington, Ohio) had the best individual showing for Oakland, tying for fifth overall with a 160 (77-83). Ellsworth???s round of 83 today was not the best of the afternoon for Oakland. The low score of the day for the Golden Grizzlies belonged to
Leigh Gulbransen (Tecumseh, Ontario) who carded an 82 to finish with a 167 (85-82) to claim 13th-place in the field of 43. One shot back of her at 168 (83-85) was
Christina Cibrario (Milford, Mich.) whose total tied her for the 14th position.
Stacey Goins (Rochester Hills, Mich.) shot consecutive rounds of 86 to finish with a 172 and a tie for 19th overall.
Katie Hollenbeck (Capac, Mich.) finished off the five-member OU team, placing in a tie for 24th with her 175 (89-86).
Erica Novack (Westland, Mich.) played as an individual competitor for Oakland at the tournament and bounced back nicely from a first-round 98 with an 88 today to finish tied for 36th with a score of 186. Oakland will return to action on April 11-12 when it plays at the Loyola Invitational in Chicago.
