Valparaiso, Ind. (Apr. 10, 2005) ???C On the final day of the Mid-Con cluster hosted by Valparaiso, Oakland???s women???s tennis had its best day of the three, narrowly losing to Oral Roberts 4-3 in the morning before coming back to down Western Illinois in the afternoon by a 5-1 margin. Teuta Lulgjurai (Warren, Mich.) and Jessica Erickson (Port Huron, Mich.) each won both of their singles matches to lead the Golden Grizzlies. Oral Roberts picked up what turned out to be the crucial doubles point to start things off, getting wins at No. 2 and No. 3 over its OU counterparts. In the singles action the two teams split the six contests. Oakland (2-15, 2-6 Mid-Con) got wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 4, with Lulgjurai getting a 6-4, 6-1 win at No 1, Lisa Pellafone (Rochester, Mich.) a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 2 and Erickson picking up a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 4. Angie Trecola (Troy, Mich.) came close to giving OU the win in her No. 3 match, rallying to take the second set after dropping the first only to see her opponent come back to take the deciding third set and the win. Against Western Illinois it was Oakland that started things off by taking the doubles point. The Golden Grizzly team of Pellafone/ Lulgjurai got a tough 9-7 win at No. 1 while Trecola and Lauren Sanchez-Murphy (Rochester Hills, Mich.) cruised through their match at No. 2 with an 8-0 win. Moving on to the singles matches Oakland easily took control of the match, winning four of the five matches that were finished, all in straight sets. Lulgjurai picked up her second win of the day, taking a 6-4, 7-5 win, with Erickson scoring her second win as well with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph. Picking up their first wins of the day in singles action were Trecola, a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3, and Sanchez-Murphy who won by the score of 6-1, 6-4.
